Talk Talk are commonly known for their early synthpop/new wave singles, including 
Today, Talk Talk, It’s My Life, Such A Shame and Life’s What You Make It, but are also considered forerunners in the post-rock genre for their later experimental albums.
Although they were identified with bands such as Duran Duran during the New Wave movement, Talk Talk had a progressive depth their contemporaries lacked. After keyboardist Simon Brenner was replaced with producer and unofficial member Tim Friese-Greene, each successive Talk Talk release became more sophisticated and original.
The band formed in London, England in 1981. Talk Talk began as a quartet consisting of Mark Hollis (vocals), Simon Brenner (keyboards), Lee Harris (drums) and Paul Webb (bass). They were generally associated with the New Wave movement; more specifically, in their early years, they were often compared with Duran Duran, as both bands not only featured a double-barreled name and a Roxy Music-inspired musical direction, but also a record label (EMI) and producer (Colin Thurston).
Talk Talk’s first line-up released a self-titled debut EP in 1982 which was quickly expanded into a full-length album entitled The Party’s Over. The band charted in the UK Top 40 with the singles “Talk Talk” and “Today”, both produced by Thurston (who had also produced hits for Duran Duran and Howard Jones).
Brenner left after the 1983 non-LP single “My Foolish Friend”, which was produced by frequent Roxy Music collaborator Rhett Davies. At this point, the band added unofficial fourth member Tim Friese-Greene, who became Talk Talk’s keyboard player, producer, and Hollis’ frequent writing partner.

This band broke THAT mold into abut a trillion pieces ! I was into HEAVY MEATAL and PROGRESSIVE ROCK ! That last helped me to realise Just How Good They Were! ANY Band thats worth thier salt wil progress . Others that aren`t Won`t and will stagnate ,Listen to any cutting edge ACDC Lately ? That is a band that relys on catchy Cookie cuter stuff ,because they can`t come up with something new!!!!!

I think their music throughout their career has been outstanding. While the first two albums were not quite what they wanted, they were still beautifully executed, with magnificent lyrics as always, and the music itself was great, just not so well-suited to synthesizers. Live in Montreux proved to me how much more The Party's Over had in it when played on more diverse instruments.
