Tal Bachman is the son of Guess Who/BTO guitarist Randy Bachman. He’s a Canadian-born pop singer/songwriter and was raised in a musical environment, absorbing the breadth of his father’s enormous record collection and teaching himself to play guitar. He went on to study political philosophy at a Utah State University; soon returning to his native Vancouver in 1995 to begin writing songs. His self-titled debut followed on Columbia in 1999, scoring the smash hit “She’s So High.”

"She's So High" is one great song. Remembering the 90's all over again like the best decade of music!

Obviously not, his new songs are fantast-eech. A little all over the place but in a good way, reminds me of some old (like b-side material that wasn't on either record)but definitely sounds fresh and new as well!

Completely underrated. I personally don't even think "She's So High" is his best song.

It's my prerogative to tell you that 'purgative' is only an appropriate term if you are wishing to cleanse your bowels. Perhaps some targeted advertising on this site from laxative manufacturers directed to you?

If people just want to listen to the one song, that's their purgative. That doesn't make them stupid.

For people who aren't imbeciles and are curious this is about an hour long speech Tal did in 2005 pertaining to him leaving the LDS. Interesting and really moving too. His music is incredible and he's a very intelligent fella. http://www.exmormonfoundation.org/files/media/2005Conference/Saturday-Bachman.mp3

Absolutely... I picked the album up for $1 and it's definitely a real gem. He's very talented with arrangement and as you said great sense of melody in each and every song. He's really good with phrasing and accenting parts and where he overdubs stuff. Staring Down the Sun is also (to me) a masterpiece... he really didn't get any of the kind of recognition he deserves. The same can be said for Duncan Sheik and Paula Cole. People have small brains

I have to agree with Zach216. The hit single is fine but it doesn't begin to show off his talent or song writing ability. I like the song but IMHO, it certainly is not the best one on the debut album. I hear a lot of Beatles influence in his vocal and melody styles. My favorite song is Like Nobody Knows Me. In all honesty, the entire album is great and I am amazed he only got one hit out of it. What a shame. Just goes to show how messed up the charts are these days......

This whole first record is excellent, not just the one song. Pretty horrible charts for him.
