Biography
Tones From The Underground are abstract painters who coat our brushes with Sound.
Tones From The Underground is the primary music and art project of accomplices James Guastaferro, Tristan Pollack and based in New York City. The band formed from the ashes of James’ first musical project, Panacea. Tones… music started out as experimental home recordings and sonic blueprints in 2006 and eventually evolved into a viable catalog of songs. James wrote all of the songs and played all of the instruments on any recordings with random collaborations from other artists and musicians every so often. In the summer of 2008 Tristan Pollack joined the band. Since its formation Tones… has been in and out of production and performance due to the fluctuation of its member’s lives outside of the project.
“I swear to you, gentlemen, that to be overly conscious is a sickness, a real, thorough sickness.”
But to be moderately conscious is unavoidable. With that said Tones From The Underground is an indie band that explores songwriting in both electronic and acoustic settings never fearing an attempt at emulating any genre of music. Tones… recordings are Mid-Fi with an expected emphasis on song construction over optimum recording quality and/or technical prowess. They are musical abstract painters who prefer texture to technique and whose primary focus in sharing their tunes is to release any emotional inhibition in their listeners. Almost every song is recorded in James Guastaferro’s bedroom with the intention of creating movement, both physical and emotional.
