Drawing comparisons to The Strokes, The Pixies, The Black Keys and Alabama Shakes, The Dead Ships are a soulful garage-rock trio with “hooks so poppy you'll test positive for opiates!” (Indie 103.1) The band have been called a “Bluesy Wrecking Ball” by
the LA Times and cited by local blogs (Buzzbands.LA, Grimy Goods) as a “top emerging LA band for 2014”.

The first of 2 EP’s produced by Brendan Canning (Broken Social Scene), mixed by Alex Newport (Death Cab For Cutie/Bloc Party/At the Drive In) and mastered by Joe LaPorta (Tune Yards/Vampire Weekend) will be released in 2015. The first single, “Canyon”, premieres early October 2014.
Starting out as a two-piece, The Dead Ships self released their debut, Electric Ahab, garnering blown-away reviews from the LA Times, Buzzbands.LA, OC Weekly, & The Vinyl District. The record spent multiple weeks on the CMJ 200 and the video for single "You Were Young" premiered on MTVu, reaching as high as #2 most viewed on MTV.com. Their songs were featured on MTV’s Jersey Shore and with brands Red Bull, VANS, & BCBGENERATION.

After beefing up their sound with the addition of bassist Alex Moore the band took to the road hitting SXSW, NXNE, CMJ Music Marathon, and a 33 date North American Tour. Along the way they performed with Yo La Tengo, Childish Gambino, She and Him, The Soft Pack, Two Gallants, PAPA, Sea Wolf, Anthony Green, Girl in A Coma and King Kahn.
The Dead Ships latest 7" release, Amaze/Friends By Default (Sep 30, 2011) was recorded live in 2 takes, all analog to 2" tape.
