Biography

T. J. Kirk is a side project featuring 8-string guitarist Charlie Hunter, drummer Scott Amendola, six-string guitarists Will Bernard and John Schott. The group’s repertoire consists of adapted covers of the music of James Brown, Thelonious Monk, and Rahsaan Roland Kirk (often all in the same song). The band’s name is formed from these three artist’s names; originally they wanted to name themselves James T. Kirk, but failed to get permission from the estate of Star Trek creator Gene Roddenberry.

The group was formed in 1995

Who would have thought that a band that names James Brown, Thelonious Monk and Rahsaan Roland Kirk as primary influences would sound this boring/tedious/generic?

They are the best - a constant joy for Monkians.

hmmm... I _do_ like it but not quite what I hoped for from a JB/TSM/RRK combination. A bit too much flash-bastard 8-string guitarist.
