    He's talking about what I call Big Science. That amoral, disconnected product of the corporate State which primarily serves to increase the power and productivity of statism and capitalism. Also addressed is the fact that the reductionist view of science has severed our connection to Nature. We perceive it as some 'other,' totally outside ourselves and humanity as a whole; really we are completely dependent on the homeostasis that James Lovelock and others called Gaia. Without the self-correcting supra-ecosystems of the planet we would all be dead, yet we are destroying them every single day, at an exponential rate. The planet probably won't be able to support the current global civilization-style by the end of this century, thanks to the blind 'progress' of industrial science.

    @AJB83: As I understand it, here "science" refers to the domination of nature by the means of technique. Assuming such a meaning, there is little overlap with the "research" mentioned on the other song, and thus no contradiction.
