Biography

Reading, United Kingdom (2000 – present)

Sylosis is a British band from Reading, Berkshire formed in 2000. They have used various genres in their music over the years with their first 2 EPs and debut album. They base themselves on 1980s crossed with modern styles of music like . Sylosis was formed in late 2000 by original member Josh Middleton when they were back in school, as a bunch of kids who just wanted to play metal; mainly old school thrash and .

They have released Two EPs on In at the Deep End records, entitled “Casting Shadows” and “The Supreme Oppressor”. The band has been around since 2001; founding member and lead guitarist Josh and bassist Carl are the only surviving members from the original lineup.

In November, 2007 Sylosis got an email from Nuclear Blast saying they’d love to work with the band and signed to them a month later, in which their debut album was released on October 24 2008. Their debut album Conclusion of an Age has a lot of themes, but is generally not a concept album. Lyrically, the album deals with the end of the human race, in how nature reclaims the earth again. The artwork shows a world living with the human race. There are no religious beliefs behind the writings however. After recording their debut album, guitarist Gurneet Ahluwalia quit the band to rejoin his old band Viatrophy, also from Reading. In his place ex-guitarist Alex Bailey of Viatrophy joined Sylosis, ready for the early 2009 European tour with The Black Dahlia Murder, Cephalic Carnage and Psycroptic.

Bought Edge of the Earth last week. Amazing album best I've heard in a long time. I'll get round to buying Monolith when I eventually stop listening to it. Most albums I've bought recently I got bored with after 3-4 listens Edge of the Earth just gets better each time.

Enough on this debate, the two aren't the same except they both have thrash metal parts.

Seriously, how the hell do you even go about composing edge of the Earth? It's almost thrash metal from the future, much like the instrumental work of Vektor.

Josh isn't an amazing screamer, but he can scream, on the other hand, on the last trivium record Matt's vocals sound ok, but still kind of weak, while in the rest of their discography his screaming sounds terrible... And the guitar work, did you even listen to the first Syolis album, it pretty much owns everything trivium guitar wise, and vocally, and atmosphericaly. Then, edge of the earth is amazing but the vocals ruin it for me, the rest is flawless though. And monolith, yeah, you're pretty much right, even though I would have given it a 3, or maybe 4/5 because of the amazing atmosphere on some songs, and a few bone crushing riffs, and the vocals have improved. Anyway, the fact is, it takes Conclussions Of An Age to destroy everything trivium ever wrote, and it's in E standart... Sorry if my grammar is kind of band

Man this sucks. Trivium 2.0 yep. Even the harmonies sound the same. Josh can't scream, he's shit, don't exaggerate, and most of you are just following them and worshipping them like Ascendancy era Trivium. Monolith = 2/5. Deal with it.

I have no idea why any intelligent, music understanding person would compare Sylosos to, well.. Trivium.. Really? I like Trivium and all, but they are inferior to Sylosis in almost every way, musically. Except Josh's clean vocals. But that's it, that's the only thing they have. They have Matt, who can sing(not scream) better than Josh. Case closed

Can't compare the two, unless you are referring to older Sylosis. And even then, both are great.
