Together with Blind, Failure and Blood Promise, this is one of my favourite Swans tracks. Michael Gira's voice is amazing, the 'sober' instruments accompany his voice perfectly until 3:52 when they explode into a beautiful dramatical climax with ghostly choir vocals accompanying the crescendos, only to end with those haunting distorted piano keys, much like love for a woman can haunt a man's heart. Mind-blowing.
This song, and several key others from this period of Gira and Jarboe's output, bolstered my courage to finally divorce myself utterly from compulsory, oppressive and self-rejecting religious ideologies, and embrace the elemental forces I'd been wrestling with and repressing up to that point. I owe a deep debt of personal gratitude to Michael and Jarboe each; if neither of them had given me anything else, this would have been enough. :-}
