Calypso (3:45)
From Solitude Standing and 12 other releases
A folksy, mystical rendition about Calypso, the nymph who wanted to keep Odysseus from leaving her. He was on his way back to Ithica from Troy, where he helped the Greeks defeat the Trojans. He was on Calypso’s island for seven years before Zeus ordered Calypso to free him. She, however, tried to take credit for allowing him to go.

Suzanne Vega – Calypso
My name is Calypso and I have lived alone
I live on an island and I waken to the dawn
A long time ago I watched him struggle with the sea
I knew that he was drowning and I brought him into me
