• Kick-Ass Intros

    13 Dec 2007, 00:36 by LiquorBox

I was, once again, groovin' out to the intro of Bloody Well Right by Supertramp when I got to thinking of other songs with kick-ass intros. Locomotive Breath by Jethro Tull came to mind. Your Time Is Gonna Come by Led Zeppelin was another. So, I decided to reach out to you, my Last.FM brethren (and sistren), to see what your thoughts were.

Now I would never denounce anyone's opinion, but to keep this from becoming a poster board for people's favorite songs, I would like to set a small guideline.

I think Take the Long Way Home, also by Supertramp, has a great intro with the piano and harmonica, but that is more of a buildup to the rhythm of the song as opposed to the intros of the other songs I mentioned which are, more or less, independent from the rest of the song. You see where I'm going? However, post what you want. It should be interesting.

  • Ticket To Ride

    22 Mar 2007, 00:45 by DudeTheMath

On the eve of my fortieth birthday, I decided to take the afternoon off work and go riding on the Pinellas Trail (to prove I'm not so old?): thirty-seven and a half miles of former railroad right-of-way stretching from St. Petersburg in the south to the north end of the county. So I popped my road bike on the back of the Honda and headed across Tampa Bay.

Naturally, I took my iPod, and set it on shuffle (but with a bias toward repeating recent artists and albums). As I set out on the trail, it was about 77F and sunny (good thing I used sunscreen!). The first tune was Let The Good Times Roll. I had a stiff following wind, so I made good time as I headed west for the first few miles. Some Neil Diamond, Counting Crows, and another Neil Diamond. The a great kick-out song: "Madman drummers bummers Indians in the summer with a teenage diplomat ..." Yup, some Bruce! I love his version of Blinded by the Light better than the cover by Manfred Mann.

Hey, there! Just trying to do my part to spread the meme... Basically, listen to 10 tracks on someone's radio station, log the artist, track, and your thoughts. Check out bamgrrl or DudeTheMath's journals for more info!

Now, let's get started. It's only 11:12 pm. I'm on vacation. So what the heck!

Waiting in anticipation for the first track to load. What will it be??

1 - Bloody Well Right - DTM #23 - Well, you are bloody well right. Hey, they sound British. What can I say - it's Supertramp.

2 - Closer To The Edge - DTM #2 - My first thought: "oh no. not Yes." My second thought: "I like much of DTM's stuff. Give it a chance." Oh, God. I just checked. It's got 17 minutes to go. I'll sit thru 2 more, just in case.... Well some vocals came on and it got better. The frenetic opener really didn't jive with me, but the vocals sounds like some stuff I like, yet different. I'm not a Yes fan. (Give me some credit, I sat through more than 2 more minutes.)
