A somewhat grungy band from Vancouver, B.C. Canada, but different in that they had at least four guitarists and two bass players at times appearing with as many as 12 guitarists. One of those guitarists and lead singer is future New Pornographer Carl Newman.
Collector geek note: Superconductor released some stuff on 8-track cassette!

Big ups Van City! Saw the A.C. Newman (New Pornographers/Zumpano) led Superconductor open for Guided by Voices at the Starfish Room in Van in the mid 90s. Needless to say it was a top 10 show for me (and I've seen hundreds). Half the 200 to 300 people crammed into the tiny venue were there for Superconductor as much as they were for GBV. The place was in a frenzied state by the time Robert Pollard and crew stumbled on stage. I could tell he was half blown away by their performance and half bewildered at the prospect of having to follow up something like that. A.C. isn't anywhere near the performer Pollard is, but he shredded his vocal chords and they were loud and tight. Anyhow, GBV quickly had us in the palm of their collective hand. Other than Pollard drinking more than a person should be able to and still stand, I remember two things vividly: Superconductor were all stage left and watched the whole show like huge fans. Also, a girl gave Robert a joint which he blazed up. GBV killed
