Aomori, Japan (1995 – 2005)

Supercar (スーパーカー, Sûpâ Kâ) was a Japanese rock band active from 1995 to 2005, and who made their debut in 1997. Consisting of songwriter and vocalist Kōji Nakamura (中村弘二 Nakamura Kōji), guitarist Junji Ishiwatari (いしわたり淳治 Ishiwatari Junji), bassist Miki Furukawa (フルカワミキ Furukawa Miki), and drummer Kōdai Tazawa (田沢公大 Tazawa Kōdai), Supercar is best known for combining with music.

Part of SUPERCAR’s aesthetic success stems from their “ordinary country-grown” roots in the Aomori prefecture, far north from the constant clamor of Tokyo. It was here that the youthful band first took shape. Supercar was formed in 1995 when bassist Miki Furukawa placed an advertisement in a local magazine seeking fellow musicians. Junji Ishiwatari responded and convinced childhood friend Kōji Nakamura to join as well. Junji and Kōji soon recruited drummer Kōdai Tazawa, an acquaintance from middle school. After writing songs and recording demo tapes, they received a record contract. In 1997 they released their debut album, Three Out Change, and their second album, Jump Up, in 1999. This album was followed by Ooyeah and Ookeah, both also released in 1999. With the 2000 album Futurama, electronic experimentation took a larger role that would characterize the band’s sound for the rest of their career.

Exciting debate, but not as much as music itself. I wouldn't see why people start arguing about who is better. I see their similarities, but whatever floats your boat is your choice and either one doesn't make another bad.

gj wiki'ing buddy. Too bad what you're saying isn't very accurate. Disco Inferno formed back in the 80s and was making music before Radiohead formed in 1991. That is, unless, we live in alternate dimensions and are somehow posting in the same shoutbox...? Because Radiohead didn't release anything in 1985 (not even as On a Friday). And the whole billboard 100 deal really has nothing to do with me having a superior taste in music or whatever. The issue here is that you're ignorant when it comes to music. You really don't know anything if you're calling Radiohead innovative. It's proof that you haven't listened to very much music. Your reading comprehension seems to be pretty terrible, because I have given you a reason: nothing they've done is anything new to music. Nothing. I don't know how many names I have to drop before you're satisfied, but there were plenty of artists doing much more for music as a whole than they ever will.

If you knew anything about shit than you would know thet DISCO INFERNO DIDNT EVEN RELEASE AN ALBUM BEFORE 1992, when Radiohead's first MASTERPIECE was released in NINETEEN EIGHTY FUCKING FIVE. Also not listening to anything outside of Billboard 100? What are you some kind of pretentious HIPSTER PRICK? LIKE EVERYTHING YOU LISTEN TO IS SO FUCKING GREAT? IS THAT J DILLA I SPOT ON YOU CHARTS YOU FUCKING DICK? You haven't even given me ANY reason why RADIOHEAD IS NOT INNOVATIVE. Your arguments are practically completely invalid. Get out of my FUCKING SIGHT.

whoa wikipedia lists them as ALTERNATIVE ROCK, ELECTRONIC MUSIC, AND "EXPIREMENTAL" ROCK. That's some crazy shit right there, man! How fucking dumb are you? Have you ever even listened to anything outside of the billboard 100? Go back to masturbating to your crazy experimental music like OK Computer, Black Holes/Revelations and De-Loused in the Comatorium. Protip: It's all been done before. Seriously, why the fuck do you think you can talk about something you really know nothing about? Here's a name for you: Disco Inferno. They were shitting all over Radiohead's level of "experimentation" long before the band even formed. But, of course, you have never even heard that name before now. Why would you be familiar with a band like that when you think Radiohead is fucking INNOVATIVE? You know nothing. And the fact that Supercar is influenced by Radiohead has nothing to do with anything. Sit the fuck down.

Umm, I don't know who this fucking piece of shit is, but there's nothing not innovative about what Radiohead has done with music in last 24 years. Wikipedia lists them as ALTERNATIVE ROCK, ELECTRONIC MUSIC, AND EXPIREMENTAL ROCK. Name one other band that's in that same category. BESIDES SUPERCAR OF FUCKING COURSE BECAUSE THOM YORKE WRITES THEIR GODDAMN MUSIC. If you even owned one of their CDs you'd see clear as day in bright white on dark black that he's credited on almost every single song of Futurama AND Highvision. Think a little more before you say something so PROFOUNDLY STUPID.

(#1) whoa Cihan I've never seen you post something so fucking WRONG before hah. First of all, Radiohead and Supercar do have some things in common. The progression of their respective "sounds" is very similar. Look at how Supercar progressed from Three Out Change (rather straight-forward sound) to Highvision, which makes Three Out Change look very "stripped down" in comparison. Radiohead went through a similar process. In fact, both of their debut albums are surprisingly similar in terms of overall sound. Of course, Three Out Change kicks the shit out of Pablo Honey, but that's not really the point. The point is you're wrong and so is everyone else who is saying they are not similar in the least. They are. Get over it.

They are very different bands now as far as sound goes, but that doesn't change the fact that they share some interesting similarities. Oh, and as far as Radiohead being one of the most innovative bands in music today? LMFAO. Good joke. Maybe as far as their popularity goes, sure, they may be unique in comparison to other bands surrounding them, and they have done some interesting things (namely their method of distributing In Rainbows), but wow. That statement is incredibly ignorant. Ultimately, they're not really doing anything important for music. Maybe as far as distribution goes, sure, but music as a whole? Nah. Either way, in general, it's silly to compare the two bands. They obviously have different approaches to making music. You think Supercar would ever put out something like Kid A? No. Not because they're incapable, but because that's not what they were about.

Okay guys can this debate please come to an end, when I made the comment "Supercar is like the japanese radiohead when it comes to music" I didn't mean to degrade or call supercar an imitation by any means, I was just saying that supercar is so good and unique that if there where a band out there that had a remotely similar sound I guess it would be radiohead I'M SORRY FOR THE DUMB COMMENT.
