Sunflower blue is Reuben Simpson, from Auckland, New Zealand. His first recordings were made using Fast Tracker II, a guitar and tape recorder, and although his recording equipment has since become a lot more sophisticated, he still is fascinated by lofi synths and guitars, and records almost exclusively in his home studio. Since his first EP in 2001 he has recorded 9 albums.

His lyrics are mostly melancholy, and vary from the surreal, to brutally honest insights into his personal life and struggles with loneliness.
