During the initial phase of the “Great Patriotic War” against the Germans the Soviets suffered from many shortages. One of these was an effective anti-tank weapon. Then someone came up with a brilliant plan: use trained dogs to carry explosives to German tanks. Better yet, train the dogs to climb under the tank’s hull, where it would be particularly vulnerable. The Soviets rounded up some dogs and a few Red Army tanks which could be spared from the front and began training. When meat was placed underneath the steel monsters it proved to be all the incentive the hounds needed to get them to crawl beneath the lumbering machines carrying a harness filled with explosives and a lever-type trigger on top of the pack set off the detonator.?This tactic wasn’t always successful in destroying the opposition, but the dogs were invariably killed. Being punks from small towns all over New Zealand, SUICIDE DOGS can identify with the feeling of fighting a battle that feels impossible to win… Lead singer Luke Yeoward migrated from Rotorua to the bright lights of Hamilton city at the tender age of sixteen, where he met bassist Mark Grubner. Together they formed band Mistaken Identity, and through various Hamilton punk gigs, became friends with their soon to become guitarist - Justin Rendell, of Graveyard Rumble. Realising the opportunities and expanding punk/rock and roll scene in Auckland, the boys ended Mistaken Identity when they moved on to Auckland, and along with Milanian Stewart who they found drunk in a skate park, went on to form The Suicide Dogs in 2005. Drawing heavily from bands such as The Clash, The Ramones, and Orange County punk band Social Distortion. A fusion of rocknroll and in your face punk rock, their stomp-along anthems never fail to fire a crowd into a sweat pit of Mohawks and firey angst. Passion overriding from the stage jumps into the crowd seamlessly… you know you’re watching something special. So special in fact that in their so far short life they have played with overseas heroes AGAINST ME (Florida) and THE BOUNCING SOULS (NY) and shared the stage with fellow punk stalwarts Sticky Filth, Missing Teeth and The Bleeders. Having just recorded their first album on Puppy Killer Records (a label founded by fellow punk band Missing Teeth), the boys will be taking their explosive live act on the road and plan releasing their first single in April, with an album release set for July. Blowin up! Blowin up!
