Run For Cover (3:48)

Cover of One Touch

From One Touch and 21 other releases

“Run for Cover” is an Pop song written by British group Sugababes, Jony Lipsey, Cameron McVey and Paul Simm for the band’s debut album One Touch (2000). It was released as the album’s third single during the second quarter of 2001 (see 2001 in music) and reached the top 20 in Germany and on the UK Singles Chart.

Song information

The song was produced by Lipsey, McVey and Simm. It received strong reviews from music critics. The track is one of the group’s darkest and most haunting singles to date. The lyrics describe escaping from the reality and harshness of the world, possibly an abusive relationship (you never seem to wonder/how much you make me suffer). It was released as the third single from the groups debut album One Touch in the spring of 2001 and sold 58,000 copies.

Siobhán Donaghy did not have any solo vocals in this track, although producers have cited her as writing the majority of the lyrics to the song.

In 2007, Czech singer Tereza Kerndlová covered the song as “Zhasis” for her album Orchidej.

When blues, got me down then I, get turned around
I tend to, cut myself off from things, I shouldn't run from
It doesn't really matter, sometimes we run for cover
I'm always on the outside

The melody sounds like it could be a Lillix tune.

I don't like the fact that Siobhan hasn't a solo verse in this song... fuck Keisha! [3] Exactly my thoughts. Gurl owns the chorus though and quite the rest of 'One Touch', so I'm not really mad she isn't that present in this song. And @andrewirving: it's Mutya who's singing the first verse.

The material they were making at 16 is much better than what the 20-something nobodies calling themsleves the Sugababes are doing now, over ten years later. Keep on flopping, "'babes".
