About this album

Suede is the debut album by English band Suede, released in 1993 on NUDE RECORDS. At the time the fastest-selling debut album in British history, Suede debuted at the top of the UK Album Chart, won the 1993 Mercury Music Prize, and is often credited with starting the Britpop movement. The sound of the album has been compared to The Smiths and the early David Bowie era.

    I don't really understand all the discussion about the cover; surely it's a wholly irrelevant minor distraction to an appreciation of the brilliant music? CDs don't typically have Roger Dean-designed gatefold sleeves, after all.

    An amazing debut album. Yes, the production sometimes gets in the way, but still--the songs are great. Then add in all those b sides for those singles. It's astounding how much they did in such a short time period. (Of course, I mean Suede mark 1.) Combined with their follow up, Dog Man Star, it really makes you wonder what they might have done if Anderson and Butler hadn't fallen out with each other.
