Biography

Substance is a pseudonym of two artists:

1) Peter Kuschnereit (b. 1970, West Berlin, Germany), his latest release is “Relish” (Jun 2008, Scion).

Kuschnereit always lived in Berlin‘s well known Kreuzberg district. He was invited to work at Hard Wax record store in 1991 (where underground / import records tended to first appear), he still works there. During the years Pete learned to create electronic music himself, inspired by early Chicago/Detroit artists, especially by productions of the well known label Basic Channel. His first releases came, with René Löwe (aka Vainqueur), as Scion (Chain Reaction, Berlin) and as Substance.

2) Markee “Substance” Morrison (born Mark Davies 1974, Springburn, Glasgow) a musician / DJ / producer who is part of Bristol UK based Kosheen in which he plays guitars during live performances alongside singer Sian Evans and fellow DJ Decoder aka Darren Beale with whom he teams up as Decoder & Substance or Kosheen Dj’s.
