James Brookes Buckley (born in Audenshaw, Manchester) attended Leicester University where he formed a group called Saint Simon. Performing the main Leicester circuit they were seen and hired by bar promoter Andrew Tomlinson who quickly became a valuable exporter of the band’s music. Andy T was performing in his own musical act: Corky’s Alibi, alongside James (Jimmy) Parkinson. Both Andy T and Jimmy were born in Burnley, Lancashire and formed the group at college. They continued the group throughout University, both attending midlands Universities. Jimmy quickly became friends with James Brookes Buckley while attending gigs and supporting Saint Simon with Corky’s Alibi. Not long after Saint Simon disbanded and James became the drummer for Corky’s Alibi.
James and Jimmy found they had an uncanny love for similar music and they quickly became a tight musical unit often practising on their own (a la White Stripes). Things were not working out with Andy T so they formed a group with the brother and sister combo of Doug and Suzy Burgess becoming The Tell-Tale Hearts. The Tell-Tale Hearts had an exciting musical reputation but differences in the band arose and on their last gig supporting The Feeling they decided to call it a day. At the time Jimmy had been working with solo artist Stephen Jones.
