Stuart Leslie Braithwaite (born 10 May 1976) is the lead member of the Scottish post-rock band Mogwai. He mainly plays electric guitar, and sometimes sings.

He grew up listening to records by The Cure, Joy Division, The Stooges, The Velvet Underground, Black Sabbath, and many other artists. Disintegration by The Cure was the first album he bought. While learning guitar, the first song he learned to play was “Heroin” by The Velvet Underground. He went to Stow College in Glasgow at one point, playing the guitar solo from “Another Girl, Another Planet” by The Only Ones to get in. He eventually graduated with a Diploma in Music.
