There are two artists with the name Stormchild…

1. Based in Vancouver, Canada, Stormchild is a producer and DJ of many kinds of electronic music — mostly deep shades of house, techno, drum & bass, trip hop and downtempo. Originally from Calgary, Canada, Stormchild began producing music in 1992, and DJing in 1994.

2. Based in England is a punk band called Stormchild. They released an independent album called “Stranger In A Strange Land” in 1990, gigged around the south of England for a couple of years, then broke up. The band reformed in 2009 and released an EP called “Against The Wall”. They are still actively gigging and producing music.

Hi Arashki2K6 thanks for cleaning up the profile page. We also wish that Lastfm provided a way to differentiate between artists of the same name. We originally formed in the early 1980 s and have always been involved in music, though not always as a band. Had a listen to some of your tracks and really enjoyed them. Hope that your music developments go well and good luck for the future.

I don't take any offence at all. There is actually a metal band from the UK who brought out a demo in 1985 also, but there is nothing I can do about that either. I appreciate that you researched the name before you settled on it, and we are a little more obscure purely from the age of the band etc. I don't expect the name to be reserved, but as you can appreciate I will be keeping it due to the interest in the band and the fact that we used it first and have a sizeable following among NWOBHM fans. However, I wish you all the success in the world with your musical undertakings. As long as there are people making quality music, whether they have the same name or not does not really bother me too much. We are both from different musical genres and it wont matter to most people. Many thanks for the exchange of shouts. All the best!

Absolutely no disrespect intended towards you, your band, or your music. I just don't want my stuff tagged with 'heavy metal' (nothing wrong with metal; I like lots of it, it's just not what I make), or have people come looking here for info about me, only to find photos of an old metal band, and so on. It's unfortunate for both of us that Last.fm provides no means for resolving this type of problem, as there are plenty of other artists who ended up having the same name, but this is one of many reasons why it's better to have your own unique name. I made every effort to find out if anyone else had ever used the name before I released anything as Stormchild, and all I ever found was info related to Bernard Cornwell's book.

A search for Stormchild "Rockin Steady" reveals 50 white label copies were pressed (with the intent of sending them ass demos to record labels) -- i.e. the song was never released commerically. That's probably why it's not on Discogs. The band also apparently split up over 20 years ago. I don't know why you'd expect the name to be reserved for a band that ceased to exist a long time ago, and never actually released anything. If the band is back together and recording a new album, great, but since there is already someone else using the name Stormchild (with actual releases under that name), don't you think it makes more sense to choose a different name, so we don't have to have this problem?

You must be using a really poor search engine. Try Stormchild Rockin steady and you will see dozens of pages of NWOBHM info' on us. Kilo records went into liquidation in 1985. Unfortunately Discogs is not at the centre of the musical universe, so just because we are not on there means nothing! I don't have to prove anything regarding the band or its releases as we are all over the web. Two of our tracks are also featured on this web site in Top Tracks Please accept that you are incorrect in your assumptions and move along yourself. Many thanks

Interesting story, but it doesn't line up with reality. The name "Stormchild" was the title of a Bernard Cornwell book first published in 1991. I've never seen any evidence of anyone using that name for anything before then. No other artist named Stormchild exists on Discogs -- the world's largest database of music recordings. If you've actually released anything, prove it. Take a photo or scan of the record, and consider adding it to Discogs so anyone in the world will actually know it exists. Going through dozens of pages of search results, I don't see a single page that mentions any of your recordings. This is the only Kilo Records I can find. http://www.discogs.com/label/Kilo+Records I have two tracks out on actual CDs. From the looks of it, your band has never officially released anything. Please choose your own unique name and move along.

Dear Arashi2K6 the original Stormchild formed in 1979 and was signed to Kilo records. Their single Rockin steady from 1982 is the most expensive single of the New wave of British heavy metal genre. They are due to release an album on High Roller records. I know there are a few acts with the same name, but if we are talking originals, then it's us! Sorry.

How can it onl be one real band? there is a lot of bands with this name? why aren't they real?

There's only one real Stormchild — the electronic producer and DJ based in Vancouver, Canada, who has been using the name since 1994. First official release under this name was in 2002 on the compilation "New Sound Theory". There was no other Stormchild at that time. The metal band (which has apparently never properly released anything on an actual label) needs to get a new name. The only Stormchild listed on Discogs: http://www.discogs.com/artist/Stormchild The only Stormchild in the iTunes Store: http://itunes.apple.com/artist/stormchild/id20428812
