“All I Do”, had originally been written by a teenaged Wonder and collaborators Clarence Paul and Morris Broadnax in 1966. Tammi Terrell recorded the original version of the song that year; her version remained in the Motown vaults until the release of the compilation A Cellarful of Motown! in the United Kingdom in 2002. Michael Jackson, Eddie Levert and Betty Wright provided background vocals for this version of the track which featured on Wonder’s album Hotter Than July in 1980.

You made my soul a burning fire
You're getting to be my one desire
You're getting to be all that matters to me
And let me tell you girl, I hope and pray each day I live

Interesting is the fact that this song was originally written in 1966 (and performed by Tammi Terrell). It's been rumored that during the '80s, Stevie's confidence in his creative ability was starting to waver, so perhaps rather than going with a new creation and instead revamping an older one shows a bit of this. This is in no way bad thing though. Stevie's rendition gives the tune new life (and more life at that) and is no doubt one of the better songs on Hotter than July. Almost makes you wonder how many of Stevie's songs that have just been in the vault/library for years and years are just pulled out and decided to be done/released by him.

The Michael Jackson BVs aren't even all that special - it should be noted though that joining Mike are respective singers Betty Wright & Eddie Levert, could've just as easily been Stevie singing that part though tbh...

I have great memories of this one. A friend was house sitting one summer, and we went through the owners records and found this album, but it was this song that jumped out and we repeated over and over while partying. Good times! I love when you have such vivid memories attatched to a song.
