Biography

Steve Tannen is an American songwriter and performer. He was born in New York City, but grew up in Australia and Canada in addition to New York. He started performing at an early age and learned music at home. He developed a personal mix of folk and rock while working odd jobs around the U.S. for several years.

Steve returned to New York and, with the help from some musicians, including former Suzanne Vega guitarist Jon Gordon, started a rock and roll project. This turned into his debut album Big Señorita. It was chosen as one of Performing Songwriter Magazine’s Top 12 Independent Releases of 2001. After the release he started touring nationally and winning national and international awards, including the Grand Prize in the USA Songwriting Competition.

His second solo CD “Stopped at a Green Light” was released in September 2003. He is currently frontman to The Weepies, along with his wife Deb Talan, whom he met in 2001 and now resides with in Topanga, CA with their three sons, Theo, Alexander, and Nicholas.

love this music so much - feel lucky to have found it and his and Deb's solo stuff, along with the early Weepies albums, make up the soundtrack to most of my days. Picture of you and Alison is crazy are just great :)

Still vastly underrated! How disappointing that almost two years after my last shout here Steve still has so few plays.

Check out Greg's brother Greg Tannen (he's the subject of the Steve Tannen tune - "Brother Uptown"). Greg has CD releases and is very talented in his own right. Sometimes they even tour together.

I've been listening to Deb's solo stuff for years, but I for some reason never had any interest in Steve's until recently. He definitely has some gems, and it's pretty obvious which sound pieces he brings to The Weepies. I wish more people listened to him.

Gosh, I didn't know that so few people knew about his ridiculously fantastic solo work. Deb's is lovely, too, but Steve's is really something special.

Steve's my favorite part of the weepies. I wish he would do more solo stuff.
