Biography

“I always liked simple rock music.” John Lennon

Mathieu and Ehlers have been slowly, but surely establishing themselves as innovators within the fields of music and sound design, their solo works have been rewarded with generous praise and both have been shortlisted in numerous playlists (Mathieu’s ‘frequencyLib’ and Ehlers’ ‘plays Albert Ayler’ being shortlisted in The Wire’s ‘2001 Rewind’ list). ‘Heroin’ affords the opportunity to experience their talents combined and the results are a rare joy to experience. Stephan Mathieu [Ritornell, Lucky Kitchen, Fällt] has worked worldwide as an improvising drummer, notably with German group Stol and Butch Morris’ conduction ensembles. His work now focuses on the digital processing of acoustic events. In addition to releasing works under his own name on numerous labels worldwide, his work under the moniker Full Swing, in particular his influential ‘Edits’ series , has been received with widespread acclaim. Mathieu currently teaches digital arts at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Saarbrücken, Germany. Originally a singer with a punk rock band (where he ‘prepared’ his voice with a plastic bag over his head), Ekkehard Ehlers began releasing music with Autopoieses, März, and under his own name and the monikers Auch and Betrieb in 1999. His music has been received with widespread critical acclaim. Ehlers currently teaches digital arts at Merz Akademie in Stuttgart, Germany.
