Statue of Misery are an unsigned metal band formed 2004 in Aberdeen, Scotland and consisting of Bryan (Bass), Chi (Guitar), Dez (Vox), Deans (Drums) and the (in)appropriately named Dumbass (Guitar). The band are heavily influenced by bands such as Machine Head, Lamb of God and CKy and this is evident in many of their songs. The quintet first began jamming together in Deans’ garage with the music mimicking the dark and dank surroundings, according to the band. They quickly managed to cobble together a clutch of songs to enable them to begin gigging in earnest and picked the name at random from a list of 100. Originally they did not exactly love the name but drummer Deans revealed “it’s come to represent how one mans symbol of liberty and freedom is another mans symbol of oppression or hell and I think that fits us quite well”.

To date they have written twelve songs and released one EP titled “Tonight You Die!” which was released in limited numbers but was fortunate enough to be reviewed in the Fly magazine.
They wrote “A horrible name for a band and demo alike, so it comes to quite a surprise when hear it, how good it is. It’s standard metal by numbers in the vein or Machine Head and Fear Factory but is played very well. the band are still young and once they develop there own style more, could be very promising indeed.”

The band’s tagline is “metal cast in granite” and from their tracks it would be hard to disagree with this. Hard live shows that are an unrelenting and often deafening experience have led local rock and metal fans to be divided into camps which either love the good excuse for a mosh or those that turn their backs due to the sometimes off-putting heavy nature of their music .
