For the Brooklyn indie rock trio named “The States” go here

There are at least 3 bands named just “States”: 1) A new indie pop-rock project from the US 2) A power pop band from the US 3) A french hip-hop act releasing some collaborations from the end of 00s.

1) “States” is a new project of Bryan Laurenson & Stephen Laurenson of Copeland and Mindy White of Lydia. Their first studio album, Room to Run, was released on October 18, 2011. On September 7 2011, they released a video of the song “Time Bomb” from their upcoming album on Youtube.

“There are those rare moments in life where things work out just the way you want them to. For us, States is exactly that. In the wake of moving on from our amazing pasts (both Copeland and Lydia), we were blessed by perfect timing.

What you hear now is the product of us experimenting and recording demos at home. Our goal is to get our songs out there as soon as possible, and to be heading into the studio soon after.

This is our future, and we are so excited for you guys to be here at the start of it. We will be writing, recording, playing, and sharing our progress with you all. We hope that you become a part of this new chapter in our lives, and we can’t wait to see you all soon.”

2) “States” was also a power pop band that released only 2 albums. The 10 track one named “Picture me with you” was released on 1981 and produced by John Ryan for Chicago Kid Productions.

    I saw in an interview that the dynamic in Lydia was different, Leighton basically wrote most of the lyrics if I remember correctly and she made it seem like "that's how it is and how it's always worked" since she joined the band and she wanted a more creative process in the song/lyrics.

    Saw them open for Anberlin and when they played "Verses the mirror" I decided to spotify them and listen to everything. Overall, they're pretty good, better live than on the CD, which is something I rarely say about a band I'm introduced to at a concert. The potential for greatness is there. I'd like to hear something...more from them in the future, I dunno what, it just sounds like something's missing from their lyrics/sound. But anyway, the lead singer's voice is beautiful, and yeah she sounds like Hayley Williams, but her voice is a little more organic. Which I love.

    And one more thing - evolving is not defined as completely changing styles practically overnight. It's supposed to be gradual. Room to Run doesn't even sound like it's by the same band.

    No, I'm not going to "embrace the music for what it is" because what it is, is watered down pop BS that sounds like they're just trying to get on the radio, as opposed to the unique style the EP has. Can't say I didn't expect it, though it's still disappointing.. but whatev. The EP will always be amazing.
