Torquil Campbell: “Do you know E=MC2 by Big Audio Dynamite? When the band started playing that music, it evoked E=MC2 for me, which was a big, big song for me. It was Mick Jones’ band after the Clash, Big Audio Dynamite. A lot of what I do starts as a ripoff, and then the ripoff is so bad, it’s unrecognizable as a ripoff, and that was one of those songs. I just heard that steady rhythm, and I wanted to do a vocal that was lots of words and kind of disjointed and slightly abstract and not on the nose, and that kind of talked about the ideas that were in the song E=MC2, so that was my nerdy genesis for that one.”
