Starcastle was one of the popular and well-respected bands of the American progressive rock of the 70’s. This band was known for their Yes influenced epochs in the seventies. This band contained tight epic instrumentation with the somewhat dreamy and fantasy lyrics/singing of Terry Luttrell. Their singer has a [Jon Anderson[-like kind of voice, the vocal perfection beloved by American bands and an instrumental sophistication. The music was original in terms of composition lyrics and performance.

They released four studio albums between 1976 and 1978. Their first two albums for Epic, “Starcastle” and “Fountains of Light”, are archetypes of the symphonic sound; utopian, grand, sweeping, intricate, complex and melodic. On later albums, the band changes its orientation and goes towards a direct soft rock with some Yes-like vocals.

I wish more bands would try to emulate Yes. It's a great direction to go, musically. So what if you get compared to the ones who did it first? Somebody's got to be The Beatles or Jimi Hendrix.

So many ppl criticise the similarity to Yes - I actually think of it as a plus! This is definately my favorite US prog rock band from the 70's! :) Such uplifting tunes!

Para mi tienen solamente influencia de YES, no tratan de copiar o plagiar. La banda tiene estilo y los integrantes se destacan en sus instrumentos.

Lady Of The Lake для меня приятная композиция. Вообще дебютник хорош.

Yes never produces a music like "Lady Of The Lake". This is converse of yesmaniacs, who are much boring. In my country (Brazil), they're many.

good point. Starcastle and Yes each had their own sound. Gary Strater (bassist) used a Rickenbacker and Moog Taurus Pedals but had a more modal and approach to his bass arrangements...and their arrangements in general were full of counterpoint. I also think Starcastle's vocals were more polished than Yes...Yes had a raw rock edge to their vocals and sound in general. I also agree that Starcastle is an understated prog band. I really enjoyed most of their tunes, especially from their "Starcastle" album.

Since Starcastle began I have never had a problem with their sounding like Yes. Starcastle is Starcastle and Yes is Yes.

Yes they do sound like "Yes" and yes that's why I like them! Also you'll hear some ELP in there too!

It's sounds a lot like Yes, but if Starcastle live sounds anything like this harmony wise, I give these guys props regardless.
