Star One is a band conceived by Arjen Lucassen. The concept is near-identical to that of his main project Ayreon (concept albums with multiple vocalists and styles). An album, Space Metal was released, along with a live DVD/CD set called Live on Earth.
In October 2010, a new Star One album titled “Victims of the Modern Age” was released, featuring mostly the same vocalists and instrumentalist as the first album. A special edition contains a second disc with five additional tracks as well as a making-of video. The concept is based on movies (as was Space Metal) - and in this case based on post-apocalyptic ideas about our own planet.

Each song on the Space Metal album is based on a different science fiction franchise, including Alien, 2001: A Space Odyssey and Star Wars.

Those songs that are based on films or television shows are as follows:

On CD 1:
Set Your Controls - An introduction written by Arjen
High Moon - Outland
Songs of the Ocean - Star Trek IV
Masters of Darkness - Star Wars Trilogy
The Eye of Ra - Stargate
Sandrider - Dune
Perfect Survivor - Alien
Intergalactic Space Crusaders - Blake’s 7 (television series)
Starchild - 2001: A Space Odyssey, and 2010: The Year We Make Contact

On CD 2:
Spaced Out - Dark Star
Inseparable Enemies - Enemy Mine

Lift-Off on Disc 1 is an instrumental intro to the remainder of the album, and as such is not based on a work of science fiction.

Victims of the Modern Age is so fucking good, I bought the album after hearing three songs. Having listened to the whole thing, I DON'T REGRET IT ONE BIT. Not too crazy about Space Metal though. Way too much Stratovarius and Dream Theater for my liking. Bleh. Definitely like the heavier sound of their second outing.

@Zoltanx: no, the second is good but the first one is just incredible. One of the best albums of all times in my opinion. So awesome.

Zoltanx, no, you don't. But VoaMA is also a great album - not so melodic as Space Metal and much heavier, but though pretty cool.

Only the continuation from Down the Rabbit Hole into Digital Rain is so freaking beyond this world... It's not often clear from the first 1:30 if the album's going to be good or not. It was, with ease, with Victims of the Modern Age. That intro sliding to the first album track and the huge, phenomenal roar of music starting is one of the best moments of the album, along with some other things. Victim of the Modern Age is super awesome. The whole Digital Rain is as well, especially the music interrupting in the end and the canon singing starting. My God... And 24 Hours is huuuuge now that the song has finally dawned to me. Cassandra Complex returned my faith to hard rockish mid tempo songs: they can still be good and not repeating the same shit over and over! Also super catchy chorus I could listen to hours. And Damian Wilson! ^_^ Well, the whole album is perfect (no shit?!) and the bonus disc is good, too. Nice to hear "The Cat's" voice is still in shape, and that Anderson is great!

Both of these albums are just amazing, but would we expect anything different from Arjen Lucassen? The fact that my favourite song on Space Metal is based on Star Trek IV is just the icing on the cake!
