To say a St. Vincent song is overproced is to admit you don't know what overproduced means. An overproduced song is a song produced in a way so it sounds clean, easy to listen to, commercially acceptable. Want to listen to a overproduced song, go check Rihanna. The album version is amazing, to say it is overproduced is the same as saying Bowie's Berlin era albums were overproduced by Brian Eno. They were not. It's just another (very important) aspect to those artists' music. If St. Vincent's albums were acoustic, stripped of the layers upon layers of sounds that they feature, her music wouldn't be the same, she wouldn't be as widely recognized and wouldn't be were she stands now as an artist. IMO, obviously.

I couldn't agree more, tahbyfet. She doesn't need much to sound brilliant.

The studio version is over-produced, the acoustic version blows away most other St. Vincent songs.

@Joshuac220 - You know, its funny... I always impulsively associated it with the French Revolution as well without really thinking about it. The point about telegrams is a good one though. Its a mesmerizing song no matter how you look at it.
