Obviously a song, or a specific part of a song, is always going to mean different things to different people. Some of us think it's heavenly, some of us think otherwise - that's all cool and groovy. Perhaps if I explain why I feel the way I do about it then that may help, although expressing a feeling in words will always fall well short. First off is the ascent. That's a fairly obvious emotional device but it's effective. And just when you think it's going to crest, she takes it on a further two bars or so, increasing the anticipation and also putting doubt into your mind as to when that summit will be reached. Then the longed-for explosion, loud bit, whatever, doesn't happen. Instead it's this beautiful squirmy piece of music... That throws the listener. You said it's not transcendent, but I disagree. It opens the mind. It's as Zen as "what is the sound of one hand clapping?" If the listener is receptive enough, that moment, 2:34, can send them to the other side. That happened to me.

Your idea of amazing seems to be "it gets loud". That's cool I guess.

rofl. reading the shouts I was expecting a real bombastic climax with heavy handed drums and vocals being belted out from St. Vincent. instead I got shrieking and warbled electronics backed by sleigh bells for 10 seconds. that's cool i guess

For all intents and purposes this song has an orgasm at 2:34. Not many songs do that. :P
