If there's one thing that I love about this album, it's that some songs can absolutely be bathed in Technicolor ("What Me Worry", "Human Racing") while others seem to currently hold the position of some of the most maniacal vocal performances Annie Clark has ever put to tape ("Your Lips Are Red", "Paris Is Burning"). Although it's a very strong debut album, after having listened to this long after I discovered her later work, it's fascinating to here how far she's come along since then.
first time I've heard this album, being a fan of her other work. I'm liking it a lot so far, there's more of an overt accessibility and - I guess - 'lightness' to it, but there's still a lot of the distinctive St. Vincent-ness that's explored more on later albums.
Really love the strings, too. Can't go wrong with well-produced strings.
