"It was around this time that Rob Mitchell at Warp died. I was really fond of Rob. The last evening I spent with him was in Sheffield and he had been playing me some music by Joy Division. I decided to record that song as a memorial to him, but at the same time I really didn't want to try and divert attention from the tragedy of his death to my record, that would have been repulsive. So I kept the story to myself’.

Amaze balls, I didn't even know this was Square-square, so good and different from him to do?

Joy Division's is a classic. I'm not a huge fan of the band (certainly not enough to be called a "fantard") but Squarepusher's definitely holds its own against the original.

Love it. Heard this first, only then the original. Beats the JD version hands down. And Squarepusher is never about just drill'n'bass.

I really like this cover, all this talk of "not as good as the original," with almost all covers of decent songs, that's the case. I just take it for what it is, and I think it's a solid cover. I like everything about it.

never heard the original, but so surprised to hear this one from Squarepusher... I thought he is straight crazy experimental drill-and-basser.

JD fantards forget how obnoxious original song can be to people that aren't mystified by that place and time in music. This version manages to make it not suck as much.

The bass is awesome and thunderous, yet the vocals suck so badly.

Have to agree with kivancbilgin (below). This adds nothing to the original. Slightly faster than the JD version, but otherwise pretty much identical, albeit without the deeper meaning provided by virtue of it being sung by ian Curtis... Avoid. I will.

I think this is a pretty good cover and in fact fits well with the rest of the album. The previous track, Mutilation Colony - a slow, bleak and brooding soundscape which disintigrates into frustrated, arhythmic aural clobbering - leads well into this sweet, heart-baring cover of perhaps a significant track in Tom's youth. Makes you wonder what was going on in Mr Jenkinson's life at the time...

This is a really interesting cover! I've heard a lot of average ones of love will tear us apart, but this one stands out.
