The Spin Doctors is a rock group from New York City, best known for its 1992 hits, “Two Princes” and “Little Miss Can’t Be Wrong”, which charted at #7 & #17 on the pop chart, respectively. The album that included those songs, Pocket Full of Kryptonite, sold poorly until MTV and radio began playing the songs. The album eventually went gold, and then received another boost in sales after the band’s appearance on Saturday Night Live in October 1992, ultimately selling five million copies in the United States and peaking at #3 on the Billboard top 200 album chart. The band also made an appearance on Sesame Street, singing a modified version of Two Princes which emphasized the importance of sharing.

The current members are Chris Barron (lead vocals), Anthony Krizan (guitar and vocals), Aaron Comess (drums) and Mark White (bass).

Turn It Upside Down (1994) was not as successful as ‘Kryptonite’, although it did sell a million copies and its second single, “You Let Your Heart Go Too Fast”, was a modest hit (#48 on the pop chart). Shortly after the release of Turn It Upside Down, original guitarist Eric Schenkman left the band, citing both musical and personal differences. He was replaced by Anthony Krizan.

The follow-up, You’ve Got to Believe in Something (1996), sold poorly and the band lost its record contract. Guitarist Krizan also left the band following its release, for reasons that remain relatively unknown. He was replaced by Eran Tabid. Also during this time, Ivan Neville joined the band on keyboards. In 1998, the band signed to Uptown/Universal and released Here Comes the Bride in 1999.

I'm going to the Chris Barron shows at Sullivan Hall and rumor has it long-time friend Jono Manson is in NYC and may show up for a visit to play some tunes with Chris. It was also rumored that a female songstress from back in the day may stop by as well. Anyone know anything more about this? Or what dates they are supposed to play?

Spin Doctors were part of a very promising movement in American music which seemed likely to define an entire generation but just sputtered out. It really was a crying shame that all these bands (somewhat of the "grunge" scene) didn't have the real impact they seemed destined for. Oh well, that's the way it goes sometimes. :^)

The Spin Doctors were written off for having one (really shit) hit 'Two Princes' & 'Little Miss Can't Be Wrong' which isnt much better. They are insanely talented, not in the lyrics department obviously but the music is immense, the 'Big Fat Funky Booty', 'Shinebone Alley, 'Jimmy Olsen' 'What Time Is It'. They're list of excellent songs is endless... Also a great live band who were obviously just natural performers. You should hear their live album called 'Homebelly Groove: Live', the alternate take on the drumming on the live version of 'Big Fat Funky Booty' is infectious. To me the spin doctors (although not the best) are one of the most insanely underrated bands of all time.
