Spatial Distortion – Subconscious Rust
Biography
Lincoln NE, United States (2005 – present)
Spatial Distortion, originally formed in 2005, is an ambient-electronic act by Jim Brodhagen of Lincoln, Nebraska. His sound blends soft subtractive synthesis, haunting classical elements, and abstract distorted drums. There is an overall feeling of mystery and vastness, like drifting through an endless puzzle. It is existential and dark, connecting to a deeper side of the subconscious.

Prior to the conception of Spatial Distortion, producer Jim Brodhagen had been writing mostly death metal and acoustic music for various bands around the tri-city area when he found an increasing need to produce demo recordings. This lead to the purchase of a Tascam 4-track and a subsequent interest in recording, effects and electronic music. After a few years of experimenting, Jim began to produce recordings, mostly ambient-industrial, that were created using strictly electronic devices. Jim performed some of this earlier work through the name Cyan Drift with producers Jason Zulkoski and Brandon Davis until it’s separation in 2003. In the 2 years that followed, Jim began to produce tracks that were more beat-driven and less industrial. This triggered the birth of what is now Spatial Distortion.
