Biography

Young Buckinghamshire-based band South Sea Company began life in the summer of 2009, formed by ex-members of popular alt-rock/post-metal band Rise Inside. After growing tired of metal and all of its clichés, they started a new project with the intention of progressing their sound and creating interesting, intelligent and thought-provoking songs.

SSC spent a year locked away in the rehearsal studio crafting a new sound and working on all new material, the first of which was released in the summer of 2010 as the band’s debut mini-album. Although the band was still in its infancy, the self-titled and self-released mini album received excellent reviews, positive feedback, and secured them a handful of quality gigs and saw the birth of a big and loyal following.

Throughout 2011 SSC have again locked themselves away; wanting to improve upon their sound and material, refine the experimentation and focus on writing much bigger, anthemic songs. Three of these brand new songs were recorded last January at the legendary Sphere Studios in London with Amos Williams (of Tesseract fame) at the helm. The songs were later released as a limited-promo CD. The band also shot a video for the song ‘Sound of America’ which can be viewed on YouTube, Lava TV and the band’s Facebook page.

After a wealth of positive feedback, from music fans and industry folk alike, SSC felt inspired to keep writing. Along the way, however, they lost a guitarist which led to James swapping from bass to guitar.
