Like Suicide (7:01)

Cover of Superunknown

From Superunknown and 6 other releases

Chris was working on the music to this when he heard the sound of something hitting the window in another room, thinking someone was trying to break in. He went outside to discover a bird writhing around on the floor with a broken neck. The story goes that he had to finish her off with a brick from his garden, then went back in and wrote this for her.

This was the album closer on the original, US pressing of Superunknown.

Knowing the background story behind this song really makes me hear it in a completely different way. So weird...The "she" being a bird, the tone of the song is just so haunting...I'm not gonna say i'm glad this incident happened to the bird - & CC- , but he sure turned it into a fucking masterpiece ...Fucking good addictive song...

This is just a monster of a track, the vocals are flawless, the bass is massive, and it very succinctly showcases what makes Soundgarden great, all in one song.

This in an insanely epic, 7 minute rock n roll masterpiece, yet everytime I listen to it, I feel it was too short and could have been twice as long. What a song.

Epic is a really good word for this one! I do love the acoustic version too though.
