About This Track

“Misery” is a 1995 song performed by the Minneapolis rock band Soul Asylum. Although Let Your Dim Light Shine critically suffered in comparison to its predecessor, Grave Dancers Union, “Misery” managed to hit number 20 on The Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the US Modern Rock Tracks chart. The song also featured prominently in Kevin Smith’s 2006 movie Clerks II.

Some people have speculated that the song itself is referring to the fact that the record companies like to make “Misery” (aka alternative rock songs with dark lyrics). This theory states that Soul Asylum and its members are criticizing this idea. (In support of this idea, many people point out in the video, a CD manufacturer is shown making the “Misery” CD single.)

and its sad that you weren't even born when Animal House came out... also, hater, the film was called 'Clerks', not Clerks 1. View Askew knew what they were doing limiting production to 5 films. I'm glad Kevin Smith went on to make Clerks II. Good move. As long as everyone understands that it was technically a different prod. co. who made it.

Sad that kids who were infants when Clerks 1 came out only heard of this song through Clerks 2. Ugh... go away.

Saw these guys in Naperville last Fling, was disappointed lead singer pulled a Spinal Tap and fell down at first song and couldn't get back up without the help of roadies. On top of it he forgot what city he was in...sad.

I've got this single "Misery" with "Hope" as the 'b-side' back in 1995 when you could still buy CD Singles in the U.S. and I've loved it ever since. They even show that single being "pressed" in the official music video for the song. Check out the video on youtube and check out amazon.com for the single.. you can get a used copy less than $1+shipping and everybody should own a copy
