3) Sora, a Japanese quartet
Sora is a dynamic Japanese quartet, comprising of the standard two guitars, bass and drums. The band play a Japanese take on mid 90’s midwest emocore although alot more alternatively influenced. Their songs, jump both timing and dynamics, as well as containing twinkly guitar breakdowns just like many other bands from the genre. The band retains a rather unique twist on the genre, using raw Japanese vocals with building guitar riffs, featuring off-kilter use of drums and an underlying thumping bass.
4) Sora, from Porvoo, BorGoa, Finland
Sora in Finnish means “gravel”. Sora is in its element while creating airy electronic downtempo with a twist of ambient, jazz and funk. Exquisite sounds from composer/musicians Pi Kiviharju (flute, vocals), Heidi Kiviharju (saxofon, vocals), toMMen (programming, sampler) and Janne Rouvinen (programming, percussions).
Their tracks “Rainday” and “Hiljaa metsässä” are featured on Helsinki Cooler vol. 2 compilation.
