You just have to have the baritone voice of Bob Nolan along with the original Sons of the Pioneers ... It's not Country ... it's PURE Western ... And, down here in Texas we love our Western music as much as anything. This kind of stuff tells the real story of America ... the American West ... and ... Texas. Come join us in The Lone Star State and enjoy life for a change. We don't bite. Rattlesnakes, yes ... but, the average Texan, no. Have a great day.

Wonderful song. I remember seeing and hearing Sons Of The Pioneers in Westerns, Roy Rogers, etc., when I was a kid.

This gospel-folk song about a man and his mule and a mirage in the desert was originally written by Canadian-born singer-songwriter Bob Nolan in 1936. Nolan was a founding member of the American cowboy singing group The Sons of the Pioneers who recorded this song in 1941 winning a Grammy Award for it. http://www.songfacts.com/detail.php?id=18618

Who can't like this Cowboy tune? ... This song conjurs up a real image of the story being told ... No group before or since can sell a Western tune like The Sons of the Pioneers (with or without Roy Rogers) ... I could listen to them all day.
