    yeah...it's the same song...ballard of mack the knife...english for...moritat van mackie messer (moritat for short)...written by german composer kurt weill...lyric by bertoit brecht...i can never hear this tune without recalling ella's wonderful rendition with scat...it's never been topped...RIP Duchess

    I thought the original title of the piece was "Moritat of Mack the Knife" . . . but various artists changed it slightly.

    @raggleman: They are exactly the same piece. "Moritat" is simply a word taken from the original German title of Kurt Weil's song, meaning a ballad about death/murder.

    I'm fully aware this is Mack The Knife.....but I'm being told it's Moritat. Is that a different name for the same track or a completely different piece of music?
