Biography

Sonia Dada are a Chicago rock/soul/rhythm and blues band, which tours with anywhere from 6 to 8 members. The band formed in 1990, when founding member Dan Pritzker heard three future members (Michael Scott, Paris Delane, and Sam Hogan) singing in a subway station. Sonia has become a mainstay of the Chicago musical scene in the years since, incorporating elements of rock, soul, gospel, and funk.

Their 1992 debut album, Sonia Dada, produced a minor radio hit, “You Don’t Treat Me No Good”, and sold more than 100,000 copies. In 1994, the band’s tour saw them opening for the group Traffic, as well as headlining an extremely successful Australian tour. “You Don’t Treat Me No Good” was a #1 single in Australia, 1993.

In October 2006, “You Don’t Treat Me No Good” was ranked 396 out of 2006 songs in the Triple M Essential 2006 Countdown. Triple M is radio station 105.5 out of Madison, Wisconsin.

I adore this band… especially great their live album "Lay Down and Love It"

I've heard their first two albums so far and they are brilliant beyond belief - and truly under appreciated, it seems.

Test Pattern--their last album--is worth a listen... particularly "Old Bones," "Diggin' on a Road," "Ragdoll", and "Sylvia". I think the intensity is still there, albeit in a slightly different form. The minimalism of "Sylvia" combined with Paris' vocals are quite beautiful, and the "Diggin' on a Road" is pretty rollicking...

I've only ever heard You Don't Treat Me No Good, and I love it so much. It's one of my favorite songs. So maybe I try finding one of their albums?

I like them, but I've also found hundreds of other bands' music worth paying for. I stopped following them after My Secret Life, but have recently started listening to the last 2 CDs. So far I like them, but I see where you're coming from.

Me too. Best played: loud. Nearly the only band I actually paid to own. So many good songs, though I do think their later albums lose some intensity.

Aye, psychomonkey, that they are. Was always a bit surprised they didn't find a wider audience.
