Biography

There are four bands called Sonar: an al band from Hungary, a Belgian industrial act, a Swiss minimalist progressive rock act and an italian house/trance act.

about the Belgian one:
During the last ten years sonar has become one of the most well-known and appreciated rhythmic-industrial projects. Countless releases and high-energetic live performances assured their top position in this genre. For those unfamiliar, Sonar’s sound can be described as synthesized outbursts, strategically placed samples and droning bass pulses, corseted in strict driving beats and minimalistic sequences. Presently the sonar line-up consists of Dirk Ivens (Dive, The Klinik,Absolute Body Control) and Eric Van Wonterghem (Monolith, Insekt,Absolute Body Control).

unaesthetic: If you don't know them already, try Esplendor Geométrico. 100blumen is also worth a shot. I always found Sonar to have such an unique style with their pureness I haven't heard much that is similar. But as Sonar sometimes is very close to techno, in terms of that "stripped-down, basic, noisy loop structure", maybe there is something you'll like: Takaaki Itoh, Go Hiyama, Surgeon, British Murder Boys, Exium, Reeko. Stuff like that, though most of it isn't nearly as noisy as Sonar.
