My daddy was 17 at the time of the Missippi River Floods. That was also the time he left home. Wish I had him around to ask questions about the flood of 27. Floods in the delta were not unusual, this one was the "katrina" of the time.

Born in 1902, that made Son 25 years old during the great Mississippi River Flood of 1927. Most Americans don't know anything about it, but it was a major catastrophe at the time. Private citizens, and of course poor Blacks, were pressed into involuntary service building and repairing levees. ...The levee camp was real.

Son is genuinely one of the all time greats. Great songs always sung and played to the best of his ability. Add sharp dressing to the mix and you see the guy was a perfectionist. Watch out for his acapella version of 'Grinning in your Face', makes this huge sound just by clapping and singing - he's having a ball and you can't miss that. Made me want to jump in and shake his hand.
