In the spring of 2005, 35 singers, most of them music teachers and musicians with a degree in music education at Örebro Musikhögskola (Örebro Academy of Music) founded Stella, Solvieg Agrens kammarkör, a chambre choir conducted by Solvieg Agren.
Solvieg Agren, with 35 years of experience educating music teachers to be, knows her singers of Stella well: Many of them have been her students, and being members of the Örebro Academy of Music Choir, having participated and won renowned competitions throughout of Europe, the history of the singers and Solvieg Agren goes much further back than young Stella‘s. Together they have achieved not only a
number of first prizes, but also gotten prestigious invitations to other competitions and choir festivals.
The word „Stella“ means „star“, and Solvieg Agren and her chambre choir Stella has the intention to establish themselves, like a shining star, on the swedish choir firmament. The aim is, that with innovation, elegance and high artistic level as guiding stars of their own considering both choice of repertoire and timbre, to become one of the leading mixed choirs in its genre.
The debute of Stella, Solvieg Agrens kammarkör, praised by critics, took place in Örebro Art Gallery on the 16th of April 2005. The choir offered their listeners a journey, full of nuances, through swedish and french choir music, embraced by the title „Light and Shade“.
The repertoire of the choir covers music from the vast eras of renaissance to present times, both sacred and profane. However, its specialty is the so-called “Swedish choir lyric poetry“ and not the least contemporary music.
