Solomon Linda and the Original Evening Birds best know for the recording of Solomon Lindas’ “Mbube” in 1939 (the original “Wimoweh”) the story goes that Pete Seeger obtained a copy and decided to do a version of it himself, which he called “Wimoweh’ after what he though was the main lyric of the song. the actual words are “uyimbube” which means “you are the lion”. millions were made over the years by various artists recording this song, but Solomon Linda died destitute at the age of 53, never having made a penny from the song. The fate of The Original Early Birds seems to be unknown.

It's a war chorus... says the Discovery hehe. But still beautiful and full of meaning. And has a sad history behind.
