(1987 – present)

Solitude Aeturnus is a seminal American band, formed in 1987. Their sound is heavily influenced by Swedish legends Candlemass as well as more eclectic sources, such as prog innovators Fates Warning. They have released six albums and appeared on 9 compilations since 1991. Their vocalist Rob Lowe has recently joined forces with Candlemass, replacing Messiah Marcolin, but will continue on with Solitude Aeturnus as well. Former bassist Lyle Steadham is now guitarist and lead vocalist for the / band Ghoultown.

As of June 2012, Rob Lowe is no longer a member of Candlemass.

    What makes this band interesting (and one of my faves) is their penchant for seamlessly incorporating styles into their foundation of "traditional doom metal". Thankfully for us words perfectly lack, and thus music continues to mystify and remains a threat.

    Just gave "In Times Of Solitude" a try. It is sure an important release for this band, but i am so glad, that Robert Lowe took over the vocals from Gabehart -- Lowe is so much better than Gabehart. Solitude Aeturnus before was really boring stuff -- not of course the music. The music has always been fantastic ...
