Solefald, Norway, 65 Plays
Solefald was first introduced to me by "Solefald-girl" herself, Ishora, who has definitely helped to expand my musical horizons since I've known her
To describe Solefald as black metal would be too gross a categorisation, not to mention completely unfair, since the duo of Cornelius Jakhelln and Lars Are Nedland do far more than just produce the same product as many of their fellow countrymen. To call it avant-garde would also be incorrect, because in my opinion, nothing on any of their albums sounds like it is being done to deliberately sound strange or bend a genre. Rather, Solefald's music feels very organic, with the many varied instruments, styles and emotions of the music coming together to form a solid, functional sound vastly different from what one would expect when hearing the terms "Norwegian" and "black metal" in the same sentence.
