Okay, so in my opinion, Soilwork is quite a good band. Not especially amazing, but definitely worth listening to. However, I heard (and read, on lastfm) that their new album was bad, so I thought I'd check it out and write a review. Hope you all enjoy the read.
Sworn to a Great Divide, the first track on the album, makes a blasting start. Some quite good riffs, some metalcore influences and quite good vocals. melodic death metal with a twist.
Exile starts out with an annoying intro, but makes up for this, being a steady, diverse and melodic song.
Next is Breeding Thorns, which has some great riffs and really nice drumming. Unfortunately it misses the variation the other songs had, and the vocals aren't really what you would expect from a melodic death metal band.
The vocal work in Your Beloved Scapegoat is definitely what I don't like about Soilwork, In Flames and similar bands. It's shouty, but trying to actually sing at the same time. …
