Biography

Snowbirds (UK)

Snowbirds were the quintessential indie pop band. Formed by Charlotte Thackray, and singer songwriter Matthew White (committed suicide in the late 90’s). Completed by a bass player and drummer, both students at Cardiff University who were basically “In it for the beers!”.

They released the Motorcycle Baby/Ever And Always flexi 7” on Watercolour Records in 1992 which came with the Popsickle fanzine and a split 7” with Les Poissons Solubles on Bring On Bull Records in 1994. Special guest on these sessions was an session guitarist, Glyn Kerry Groves, who also oversaw production for the release. Demos where made available on the Waaah/Bring On Bull website and Motorcycle Baby which was on the Popsickle flexidisc was also released on the compilation The Sound of Leamington Spa Volume III.

. Special guest on these sessions was an prolific “Session” guitarist , Glyn Kerry Groves, still in his “Salad days” himself. He championed the Snowbirds ethos and played guitars and oversaw production for the release. “Motorcycle Baby” has become an Indie- pop cult classic, original “Flexi- Disc” pressings command high prices across the world, but there is a free download of the complete Snowbirds album now available on- line, and an appearance of Motorcycle Baby on the “Essential” Indie compilation, Sounds of Leamington Spa III.
-
- Glyn himself said of the piece: ” These were beautiful people in innocent times, Mathew came around one sunny afternoon, (How he actually found me is a mystery to me to this day…!).

Not forgetting left-handed strummer Ewan Davies, who played on Motorcycle Baby and Ever and Always, and lent intelligent wit to the whole proceedings. Seems like another life ago. Clive (bass player, The Snowbirds 1991-93)
