Sorry but this sounds like a bad mash-up of Kid-A era Radiohead and My Bloody Valentine. Songs For Polarbears at least had good basslines and was interesting enough, but here the weird sound effects are overused and turn dull and uninspiring. The acoustic versions of "An Olive Grove..." "Batten Down the Hatch" and "Making Enemies" they did during their reworked tour of 2009/2010 are good though.
How does this album not work? How did this 'wake them up'? Alright, here's my opinion. Snow Patrol got worse after this album. This is their peak, perhaps not in their popularity, but definitely with quality in music. 
Yes. Final Straw and on is just boring radio rock.
